The "Taming of the Shrew" is a famous play written by William Shakespeare. The four main characters are: Katherine/Kate, Bianca, Petruchio, and Luciento. Katherine and Bianca are the daughters of Baptista, a very rich man in Padua, Italy. Katherine has a very bad temper and is the Shrew in the story, and her sister Bianca is the complete opposite, she is kind and and sweet.
Baptista is tired of having Katherine around the house, so he said that she must be married first before Bianca, but the thing is almost everyone in Padua is interested in Bianca and not Katherine, so this upsets Bianca's suitors.
Luciento was deeply in love with Bianca and wanted to be close to her, so he switched places with his servant Tranio and becomes Bianca's tutor. Then Hortensio, one of Bianca's suitors, becomes her music teacher. Hortensio tells his good friend, Petruchio, about Katherine, and so Petruchio said, he would tame Katherine, hence the name "Taming of the Shrew".
The two were married against her own will, and were taken home in Verona. Petruchios way of calming her down was unique. When she cooked for him he would say," Tis burnt, what dogs are these, where is that rascal cook, etc." Other than pickiness, he would call her "Kate" instead of Katherine, and when they argued it made her more sincere.
Now back to Luciento and Bianca, they were madly in love with each other and were married secretly against her fathers will. Usually the marriage back then was determined by wealth of the father, not by love. When Baptista found out, he was really angry, then Luciento and Bianca ran away and lived happily. And Petruchio and Katherine's relationship got better and became a happy couple.
