  • There are 3 main ways of analyzing literature.

Novels, Short stories, and Novellas.

Novels are long stories with chapters, for example Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe, Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Vern, etc..
Novels usually have a prose, and are also written in chronological order.

Short Stories
Short Stories are well short stories, they have no chapters, and mostly very short stories, they also have a prose like the Novels.

Novellas are like the in between of Novels and Short Stories, they are short like the short stories but they have a much more complicated story unlike the shot stories.

Then there is the Genre.  The genre is a word used to describe any categories like:

  • Non-Fiction, is about real stories and is based off true events.
  • Fiction, is not based off reality.
  • Historical Fiction, Historical Fiction is based of historical events
  • Realistic Fiction, Realistic Fictionis not based of historical events but it is very realistic and based of the world
  • Scientific Fiction and Horror, Scientific are books based off the future, and horror well its scary extremely scary books to read
  • Allegory, "literary device in which characters or events in a literary, visual, or musical art form represent or symbolize ideas and concepts"
  • Fantasy, is fake and has magic and sorcerers in the book
  • Mythology, Mythology are book that are based off myths
  • Fables/Parables,fables is a narration of a truth, mainly in which animals speak as humans. Sometimes a legendary or supernatural story. One example of fables is the book Aesop's Fables.
  • Comedy, is, witty, or hilarious, and can be persuaded with laughter, especially in theaters, television, film or a stand-up comedy. It can come in different types, but it should always to be funny.
  • Satire, satire is supposed hilarious but also have a lot of political and social topics.

Finally there is the plot, setting, theme, character development, and authors style.

  1. Plot,the plot is the story line, the story line has 5 parts,exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution
  2. Setting, is where the story takes place and time,
  3. Theme, the theme is the moral or the lesson of the book
  4. Character Development, Character development is well... the character development
  5. Authors Style, is how the book is written
