Christopher Columbus is a famous Italian explorer, born Genoa, Italy in 1451. He learned many sciences and read many Marco Polo books, which influenced him to start journey himself.

In the beginning, no one wanted to fund his journey, cause they all thought that the world has already been discovered. The only one who agreed was Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain.

Although, Columbus spent 2 years discussing with Ferdinand and Isabella, till they agreed that they would fund his journeys in January 1492, in return for a payment when he found his destination. So they funded 4 of his journeys.

Columbus started his journey in September 1492, his ships were the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. Then only 5 weeks after he left, he located San Salvador

The "New World" (which is what they called it) was beginning to be explored by many other explorers and many other countries.

The continent was actually found around 1000 AD, but not until Columbus had a big impact on the Europeans.
